The Phillips 2200 makes good coffee. That’s about as much as I need to say about that. I’ve been using pods for years, but now I am free.
The water reservoir is painfully small, and the waste bin fills quickly. An awful lot of water ends up in the waste tray. These two negatives are not a big deal. I suspect that even higher price machines have the same issues.
The packaging is very thorough, which was a bit annoying but also reassuring. Outside of beating on the box with a hammer, this machine should arrive in good condition.
4 stars. If the longevity claims are correct, I’ll be buying a new coffee maker in about 18 years. If it really does last that long, the next one will be Phillips as well.
Now, that’s where my original review ended. That was within a few days of originally receiving this machine. Since then, the machine has started making odd noises and behaving strangely. Last night I cleaned the brew group and troubleshot issues for a few hours. Nothing seemed to help; the machine was only making a few drops of coffee at a time.
I finally had the time to dig deeper today. On a Phillips support site, I finally found my answer. I thought there was no way it was such an easy fix, but I was wrong. My problem was the filter, and removing it instantly fixed my issue.
Don’t fret! If something goes wrong, Phillips absolutely has a solution.
Quality / price just perfect.
I contacted Amazon chat and they offered to send a replacement one. I confirmed through chat this would be a new unit, because of the missing parts.
2nd Unit, received and was surprised it was another Amazon Warehouse “second life unit” this one was missing the original box, however it did have all the accessories. I decided it was a suitable replacement. I followed the instructions like the first one and filled the tank with water. This time water started to leak out the back of the unit, I double and triple check to make sure the water container housing was correctly seeded and was stilling leaking from the lower bottom. Seems like this unit with all the plastic components, could easily malfunction or have issues. Amazon support only offered a return and I’m going to look for a different brand. Maybe if this was a new unit I would have a different experience.
I've been using this machine for a month now, and the water empty error is really annoying me, to the point I may send it back. No matter what I do, the water empty light pops on and requires I remove the water tank once or twice and reseat it to get the light to go off. I checked the valve on the bottom of the tank and used it with and without the filter, but nothing seemed to fix it. I called Phillips support three weeks ago, and they were going to send a replacement water tank, but so far, nothing. It's an expensive machine, and this should not be a constant issue.
Update:
Two annoyances have crept up into my daily use of this machine.
1: The machine routinely displays a water empty/low warning light even when the tank is full. This pretty much happens anytime the machine is off and sits for a few hours. When you turn the machine back on, the water empty light goes on and I have to remove, then re-insert the water tank. I called Philips about this, and they are sending me a replacement water tank. Hoping that resolves the issue.
2: The milk frother does not heat the milk enough. Cappuccinos seem to come out warm, instead of hot. I think the milk does get hot enough and causes the drink to cool down too quickly.
I have been using the 2200 for about one month. Overall, I am very happy with the unit. I mostly make coffee and cappuccino, and so far, they taste great, and the machine has been working well. The first few brews were weak, and based on reviews on the unit and the instruction manual, it takes a few brews for the machine to settle in. After ten or so brews, I decided to adjust the grind settings from the factory default of six, down to about 3. You need to do this while the grinder is functioning according to the manual. It takes a few brews for the grinds to settle in. But I think for the coffee I am using (Dunkin Donuts. I know..its all I had at the time) the coffee turns out great.
One small recurring issue I have is that after the machine shuts off and sits for a bit, the water empty light comes on and I have to remove and reset the water tank. Not sure why this is always happening. I need to call support to see if there is an issue with the machine.
The only differences between the 2200, 3200, and 4300 machines are the number of types of coffee drinks they make and how much customization of drink settings is available. The actual size and brew units are identical. The more you spend, the more adjustment features you get, and the more chrome-covered plastic, as well as a digital touch screen are included. This is my first super automatic. I am coming from the French press and Keurig machines. I love the simplicity of this machine and no longer having to buy/deal with the K-cups.

You can save money from not buying $tarbucks, Terrible Hortons or other coffee's that cost over $2.50 per med or large cup. There's lots of math that supports the savings after the machine is paid for. I'll leave that for you to figure out...I did mine and the savings is excellent.
The machine is a decent size so ensure you have some space for it.
It's easy to clean and maintain which is key to longevity.
Noise wise, the grinder is not nearly as loud as older machines. The pump, brew group and tamper are about as noisy as a Tassimo or other pump style machine.
My only complaint is that the drip tray where your cup sits is made of plastic and feels a little flimsy. I think that could've been beefed up or even made of metal of some sort.

Conclusiones temporales
Hay que leer el manual de manera detallada, es importante, no es tan intuitiva, pero es fácil de usar
La selección de los granos de café como la calidad del molido a usar son importantes en el resultado final
No hay que tener miedo a probar
A favor
- Compacta
I've had 3 different Saeco machines over the years and this one stands out quite a bit.
notes I like.
Self cleaning before and after a coffee is made.
Expresso quantity and quality is excellent.
Temperature control.
water hardness setting.
when the machine runs out of either beans, or water it will hold the next cup (if doing a double)
Setting this Machine up correctly. ( setting heat, Water hardness, using filter or filtered water etc) will result in probably the best coffee you've ever tasted. period.
I use Coffee level 3-5 either medium roast beans for more aromatic coffee(level 3), or stronger expresso beans (level 5) harsher coffee.
my personal favorite is a medium arabic or cuban coffee.
I tried, but don't use the milk froth attachment. its fine and all, but if i need a latte i'll usually heat my milk separately and add to the cup for a creamer taste (i use 3.25% (or more) milk)
for the simplicity, ease of cleaning, and the amount of water lost (waste) with this model over the few others i've had in the past, this one is the best unit i've bought now in the past few years.
the brew unit is easy to clean, and the machine in general is quite easy to keep in order.
I use reverse osmosis filtered water, so the coffee is always of a consistent quality. I'll never need to use the added filter, so i get more water volume in the tank than with the filter. this saves time too as I'll never need to run the descaler. using the best water for the best coffee is always the best option.
if you take care of this unit, clean it regularly and use good quality beans (at the right settings) this machine will easily last you years.
Bought this while on sale new unopened box. I was lucky. Don't accept open / used items if you paid full price. return the unit for replacement if you receive an open box.
