They have little notches on the side that grip the branch. I should have replaced my old loppers year ago. Lots of downed trees to break down after a storm we had. I've never been disappointed with a Fiskars product.

i have to say i love these cutting shears they expand to a size fit for me and im 6ft 2 .they cut through 2 inch small trees like they where twigs .the only thing that worries me is the extension itself i am not certain how long they will last but over all i am very happy with this brand and if they hold up i will buy this brand again.

Firstly, there is nothing American made about them so the country of origin should be changed to China.

That said, for the price. They are excellent pruners that do what they say and are easier to to use than my old pruners. I knew they were imported before I bought them, but for the price they are hard to beat. They sailed through some thick brush with ease. I think they will prove to be very useful. It remains to be seen what their longevity will be however I suspect they will last as long as they are used well within their perimeter.

I think that these are a really good in between size. They seem to be good quality . I really wanted to get the adjustable length, but there were too many reviews saying that they lose their holding power and slip and I did not want to deal with that. So for some branches, I will have to get on a ladder. I cut up some branches that I had already cut with my electric saw outside and it seems like you need to open them all the way to really cut through anything more than an inch. I don’t think these would do well on larger branches as these were not that large , and I really had to use some muscle power to get through one of them. That being said, I’m in my mid 60s and started developing lots of arthritis issues due to my job before retiring. I think the weight was decent until I was holding them for a few minutes and then they started to get heavier. For what I need they are fine because I don’t have a lot to cut up, so overall I’m happy.
