From the past few years, people are scared of going to Black Friday due to the trampling/pushing/deaths. With the economy the way it is, it may get worse. Thus, I will give pointers b/c I
my fans. 1. Don’t bring your kids! Every year I wait in line for Black Friday specials, somebody always brings their kids to get extra vouchers. It’s very dangerous to bring them unless they’re at least 18 and over 5’ tall. The second those doors open, nobody cares who is in front of them – people will push that crowd until they get in to buy their products. What people don’t get is that the top items are given out as vouchers to prevent people from grabbing. If you want the $249 laptop, you’re most likely going to be given a voucher to pick it up at a separate section far away from the computer section. 2. Check the weather forecast! 2 years ago outside Best Buy, it was pouring rain. People started getting very sick and only 5% of the people in line had an umbrella. Make sure you check if it’s going to rain/snow so you can prepare for it. If you do bring an umbrella, don’t bring a big one. You might end up injuring others as people smush together. 3. Don’t bring your full wallet/purse! Black Friday is a thief’s paradise. People get their items stolen very easily because once those doors open, there is so much pushing and shoving that your body goes numb. You can’t feel when someone pickpockets you. Bring only what is needed – your credit card and keys? If it gets stolen for some reason, you didn’t lose your license, cash, nor your insurance cards. 4. Fake vouchers! 2 years ago, someone came up to me in Best Buy and said, “I don’t want the laptop anymore. I’ll sell you the voucher for $50.” I looked at it and it looked so real. However, I immediately thought, ‘why would you wait in line for 8 hours and sell this for $50?’ Well, guess what? People create fake vouchers and print it on glossy paper that mimic those of Best Buy after they have seen what they looked like from previous years. Don’t buy vouchers from anybody. There will be people trying to “sell you the voucher they don’t want.” 5. Avoid bringing tents/chairs Every year, people bring tents and chairs. While it’s great for comfort, it’s not very convenient. If you do, you better have your spouse or friends waiting in the car ready to take them from you at least 1 hour before the doors open. This prevents a huge hazard when people all rush. 6. Know what you want before going Know exactly what you’re going for on Black Friday. Ask people in front of you if they’re going after the same items. With 10 laptop vouchers, if you’re #11 and all 10 are getting the laptop voucher, good luck. Make sure to communicate with those in line what you want or you may stand there for 8 hours and get nothing. The employees in the front when you walk in ask, “which voucher you want?” Tell them specifically what you need.
